I’ve always been a keen first aider and want to give help for burns and other physical emergencies. On this vein, I recently saw a post about someone’s child who was burned by a tea kettle spill.
Conventional first aid for burns
Great information about taking care of the burn using all the conventional means – calling 999, cold water, protecting the skin, pain relief. These are so important. There is even a great video on the Irish Red Cross website.
Jin Shin Jyutsu help for burns
In addition to conventional first aid, we can help ourselves and others with Jin Shin Jyutsu. This has been really useful for me when I’ve gotten a bit too much sun and can also help with other types of burns. I’ve learned two great helps for burns: palming the calves and right over left.
Palming the calves
Palming the calves helps cool the body and allow it to heal. Gently placing
- our left hand on the back of the right calf,
- and our right hand on the back of the left calf.
- holding for 20-30 minutes.
If too tender, you can hover your hands over the area.
Right over left
We can help bring energy to or draw energy away from a specific place on our bodies. We place our two hands together with very different results.
Right over left – putting our left hand on our body and placing our right hand on top – helps draw energy away from the location. Very helpful in cases of burns and splinters.
Left over right – putting our right hand on our body and placing our left hand on top – helps bring energy to the location. Very helpful to reduce swelling or to slow bleeding. (Of course, we need to be sure to follow good practice for first aid with all physical ailments.)
